According to the Handbook of Texas, Savoy Male and Female College, established in 1876, was one of the first coeducational academic institutions in North Texas. A fire destroyed the buildings in 1890 and efforts to reopen the college were unsuccessful. We have obtained and scanned the Catalogue for 1887-1888. You can view the entire catalogue HERE.
The Catalogue lists the faculty as:
R. R. Halsell
E. B. Hinshaw
W. I. Hunt
It also contains a list of students in primary, preparatory and collegiate departments. The students were from various towns in Texas and from the Indian Territory. The total enrollment was 301. The College had a library of over 400 volumes.
